Cabbage Hill’s Sustainable Practices
-
Regenerative Chemical Free Natural Practices
We cultivate our vegetables and greens using both our own and locally sourced organic compost, free from pesticides, herbicides, commercial fertilizers and genetically modified seeds. We take pride in ensuring that our animals are free-ranging and grass-fed on open pastures, fertilized solely with our organic manure and devoid of commercial fertilizers. They are allowed to root freely and are never given hormones, antibiotics, or commercial feeds. Additionally, our free-range pastured poultry plays a crucial role in controlling harmful insect populations.
-
Rare Heritage Livestock Breeding
We are proud stewards of biodiversity. Our farm serves as a sanctuary for rare heritage breeds, which are not only a link to our agricultural heritage but also crucial for maintaining genetic diversity and ensuring sustainable farming futures. From the robust Large Black pigs and handsome grass-fed Red Devon cattle to the stately Shetland sheep, each animal is thoughtfully raised on our expansive natural pastures located on conservation land. Our practices include humane handling and ethical slaughtering of all our animals.
-
Year-Round Produce and Flowers
We grow our produce and flowers year-round in our greenhouse, raised beds, fields, and hoop houses. Our fields yield a variety of chemically free fruits and vegetables, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. By strictly adhering to natural practices, we ensure that every item from our farm is not only fresh but also nourishing and clean. Additionally, our cut flowers provide a beautiful, fresh, and long-lasting local alternative to flowers shipped from abroad, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
